Lauren Chartuk is the 2016 – 17 editor-in-chief of Poictesme. She will graduate in 2017 with a BA in English and a minor in French and British Studies. She has worked with Poictesme on staff for 3 years. Lauren was a copyeditor for the online literary journal Blackbird. Lauren writes nonfiction and reads 18th century novels in her free time.

Assistant Editor-in-Chief

Faith Vasko will complete her degree in English, with a minor in Business and certificate of product innovation in May 2017. She has worked on the Poictesme staff for four years and served as the assistant editor-in-chief for her final year. “We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” -Joan Didion

Art Director

Megan Goldfarb is the Artistic Director of Poictesme for 2017, and has worked in artistic co-direction since the fall of 2015. She will graduate as a super-senior in May 2018 with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking and a minor in English. She has been on staff of Poictesme for four years. Megan maintains a multimedia studio practice outside of Poictesme, and has shown at the Anderson and the Depot galleries.


Melissa Gitchel is a junior in the VCU Arts Crafts and Materials program where she focuses on textiles and ceramics. Melissa has been a member of the Poictesme staff since Spring 2016, and has served as secretary since Fall 2016.


Elise Ketch is the 2016-17 Web Gremlin of Poictesme. She will graduate in 2018 with a BFA in Communication Arts, a certificate in Product Innovation, and an anticipated minor in Philosophy. This is her third year on the staff of Poictesme. Elise has been published in Amendment, VCU’s social progression literary journal, and Le Monde, the newspaper of the VCU Honors College. Elise is obsessed with studying Jungian typology whenever she gets the chance.

Editorial Staff

Alexandra Barry is a member of the Poictesme editorial staff. She graduates in 2019 with a BS in Biology and Psychology and a minor in Chemistry. This is her first year on staff with Poictesme. Alley writes fiction and takes pictures of her dogs in her spare time.

Wyatt Booth joined Poictesme in Spring 2017. He will graduate in 2019 with a BA in English and a minor in Creative Writing. Prior to his involvement with Poictesme, he worked with INK magazine on their Spring 2016 issue. Wyatt writes screenplays based in realistic fiction in his free time.

Ava Blakeslee-Carter is a sophomore aiming to graduate with a degree in Art Education and Kinetic Imaging. This is her first year on Poictesme as an editor and illustrator. She enjoys cooking and sewing in her free time.

Madeline De Michele is a staff member and illustrator for Poictesme. She is currently a Psychology major and is hoping to incorporate art and literature into her future occupation. This is her first year on staffMadeline enjoys bookbinding, analyzing literature, and watching The X-Files.

Jordan Grooms is the Vice- President of the English Honor Society. He will graduate in December of 2017 with a BA in English and minor in creative writing. He has been a staff writer for Poictesme since 2016. Jordan enjoys film, writing fiction and poetry, along with reading 20th century novels in his spare time.

Hannah Kaplan graduated in 2016 with a BA in English and a minor in Creative Writing. She enjoys reading and writing poetry, and is currently working on publishing a coloring book for adults.

Caroline Meyers is a staff member and illustrator for Poictesme. She is currently in the Art Foundation program, but is hoping to major in Sculpture & Extended Media and make videos. This is her first year on staff. She enjoys daydreaming and writing in notebooks in her free time.

Andrew Salsbury is a Staff Writer on Poictesme. He received his Associate’s Degree from Tidewater Community College in 2016 and will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in English in 2018. When Andrew is not studying for classes, he works on his own short stories.

Stephanie Trujillo was the 2016 Co-Art Director of Poictesme. She transferred from John Cabot University in Rome, Italy, to VCU in Fall 2014. She graduated in December 2016 with a BA in Art History and a minor in Mass Communications. During her 5 semesters at VCU, Stephanie enthusiastically was on staff with Poictesme. Stephanie will be an intern at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy, in Spring 2017. She likes to travel, do photography, and go to museums in her free time.

Yewei (Julie) Wang is a junior at VCU majoring in Communication Arts with a minor in Art History. She is an international student from China. This is her second year working with Poictesme. She is also an editorial illustrator for The Commonwealth Times. She likes to watch Woody Allen and Wes Anderson’s movies and discover new restaurants in Richmond.
